Scholarship Program
The Merit Shop Training and Research Center
will again be administering the Merit Shop Construction
Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is sponsored
by the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors,
and is supported by Associated Builders and Contractors'
member firms and other local businesses and individuals.
The purpose of the Merit Shop Construction
Scholarship Program is to assist individuals seeking to
further their education in careers in construction. This assistance
is provided through scholarships. Any individual who will be enrolled
in a trade school, college or university program that is directly
related to a construction career is eligible to apply for a Merit
Shop Construction Scholarship.
The Merit Shop Construction Scholarship
Program has awarded over $200,000 to students since its
inception in 1983. Details on the program, including how to apply
for the scholarship to be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year,
are listed below:

| Purpose:
|
To improve the science
of construction by providing financial assistance to individuals
who are seeking to further their education in careers in construction. |
| Eligibility:
|
Any individual who
will be enrolled in a construction-related program in a postsecondary
trade school, college or university for the 2008-2009 academic
year. Applicants must reside in one of the following Pennsylvania
counties: Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata,
Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York. |
| Award Amounts: |
The amount of any
scholarship to an individual in one year will range from $2,000+. Determination as to the exact amount of each scholarship
to be awarded will be made by the Education Committee of the
Merit Shop Training and Research Center. Generally, seven to
ten scholarships have been awarded per academic year. |

Application
forms and supporting documents (application
instructions and reference
form) must be received at the Merit Shop Training and Research
Center by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008. |
| Award Selection: |
Recipients will
be selected by the Education Committee of the Merit Shop Training
and Research Center on a basis of merit and without regard to
the applicant's race, color, religion, national origin or gender.
Selection will be made no later than the end of May 2008 for
enrollment in the 2008-2009 academic year. |

by the Merit Shop Training & Research Center.
