Chapter Initiatives Regarding Diversity in the Construction Workplace
ABC Keystone is committed to attracting a more diverse group of members to its membership base. The leadership of the Chapter recognizes that, despite relatively high pay and good benefits, there is a shortage of employees in the construction industry, including a shortage of employees with diverse backgrounds.
Gender, race and ethnicity in employment are key issues that impact the operation of companies in the construction industry, and the Keystone Chapter is taking a proactive stance addressing these issues. Therefore, in January 2003, a Diversity Task Force was appointed to research ways that ABC Keystone could assist its members in understanding the issues of a diverse workforce and becoming more diverse in their make-up.
The Chapter and its leadership recognize that helping promote diversity in members' workforces should help our members recruit and retain qualified employees, while at the same time providing great opportunities for individuals who have historically been underrepresented in the construction industry.
Accordingly, in January 2004, the Chapter made the Task Force a permanent committee with the goal of creating a win-win environment for members and potential employees.
