Field Engineering

Field Engineering mistakes in class on Saturday cost nothing and are a learning experience, mistakes on Monday cost time, money, and aggravation!

Gain confidence in layout work, learn the proper way to prepare field notes, and refresh basic math skills related to layout work. Students will learn how to look for common errors and how to eliminate common field mistakes. Students will use what is discussed in the lectures in real work class labs. Lab exercises will be outside and model real work conditions. Field Engineering

Students work with transits, levels, and lasers in setting grades from benchmarks, establishing new benchmarks, writing proper field notes, setting and turning angles, building layouts, and basic math associated with construction layout and real work problems.

“I took this course to see the caliber of classes our field takes at ABC. I thought it was very well done! I hope this continues to be available in future years."
- Patrick J. Dolan, President, Dolan Construction Inc.

“The training helps to organize note-taking and recording of information. I gained an increased understanding of equipment and surveying principles. I will use what I learned for layout of site features for projects and implement clearer documentation for record, and I will apply surveying techniques reviewed in class to ensure work is accurate”

- Brian Hilsabeck, Johnston Construction Company

“There is so much more to transits and levels then I realized! The course has equipped me with enough working knowledge to build on for the future...excellent and very informative”
