Meets @ ABC Keystone
Third Thursday of each month, 7:30am
Chair: Jim Reandeau, Focus Telecommunications, Inc
Staff Liaison: Sherry Evans
The ABC Construction Rodeo is a fun-filled day for families, complete with free parking and free admission. Rain or shine! Thousands of people come out to learn more about the construction industry, while supporting the Make-A-Wish® Foundation and the Merit Shop Scholarship Fund. Various construction competitions showcase the skills of our members' tradespersons, who are given difficult tasks with a fun twist, using heavy equipment such as cranes, excavators, and skid steers or showcasing speed and dexterity with trades such as carpentry, electrical, and plumbing -- with safety always in mind.
The annual craft apprenticeship competition, held in conjunction with the Rodeo, features apprentices from ABC member companies, the winners of which will continue on to compete at a national level.
Attractions and events include: inflatable slide; construction obstacle course for students; equipment simulator; nail and peg driving contests; Lego® competition; aerial lift and more. Plus, an interactive family safety area! Total Make-A-Wish® and Scholarship Fund donations from ABC Keystone's involvement to date has topped $344,864!
Professional events: all contestants who place in the top seven places in the event will win $$$! Contestants must be employees of ABC Keystone members, and signed up in advance. Note: these events are different from the craft apprentice competition that occurs simultaneously.View a 2011 Contestant Entry Form
Public Student Event: register prior to the Rodeo or on that day. Top five contestants in each category win prize money! Both divisions follow a construction obstacle course with tasks at predetermined stations along the way. All tools and materials will be supplied. Junior and Senior High students are eligible.
